Sonia Debek, PhD, joined Melnick Lab for 6 months as a Visiting Researcher. She obtained her PhD from the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland, and previously got MSc and BSc in Biotechnology, as well as BA in English Studies from the Univerisity of Warsaw. In addition, she completed internships in Antwerp, Belgium; Mainz, Germany, and New York (Rockefeller University), and worked as a clinical trial coordinator at the Institute of Hematology in Warsaw, and a lecturer at Lazarski University in Warsaw.
Sonia's scientific interest are centered around epigenetic regulation of transcription, and the possibilities to target these mechanisms in cancer therapy. During her stay with Melnick Lab, she is working with Dr. Darko Barisic, and also advances her own grant concerning non-coding RNAs transcribed from super-enhancer regions in DLBCL.
When she is not in the lab, you will find her gliding across the dance floor in ballet and jazz dance classes, or admiring contemporary art, ballets, or music at the numerous cultural centers of New York.
